Examining some of the key prayers that are repeated on Yom Kippur that are part of the Selichot service. Monday, September 10th 7:15-8:15 PM “Why Do We Need Rosh Hashana?”. Understanding the laws, customs and prayers for Rosh Hashana Monday, September 17th 7:15-8:15 PM “Making Your Yom Kippur More Meaningful”. Why fasting alone on Yom Kippur isn’t sufficient and why we need a special day for attonement. DAILY (Monday – Friday) Mishnah Beruah Shir. Daily Mishnah Beruah classes 30 minutes before Shacharit (morning) services, on Monday through Friday mornings. Mondays 7:15 PM- 8:15 PM Jewish History Class. Ongoing weekly class. Starting with Spanish Jewry (1300 to 1500 CE), Askenzaic Jewry (from 1000 to 1600). The classes focus on major personalities that influenced Judaism and started important trends and traditions for the Jewish people. Runs October 2007 through June 2008. Wednesdays

Hebrew is not necessary. Runs October 2007 – June 2008 Mondays & Wednesdays 8:40 – 9:30 PM. Talmud Classes. Open to general public for those with limited or no experience studying Talmud. Saturdays Pirke Avot class. 45 minutes before Mincha (afternoon service). Study of the Ethics of our Fathers in depth. Uses analysis, stories, and anecdotes to understand in depth the teachings of Rabbis. The teachings are also related to current events. NOVEMBER SCHOLAR IN RESIDENCE CLASSES Professor Aaron Demsky, professor of Biblical History at Bar Ilan University will present: Friday Night, Nov 16th: "Women in a Man's World - The Book of Ruth". Analyzes this book’s personal triumph, loving kindness, tension between men and women, character development and salvation. Saturday afternoon, Nov 17th: "The Origin of the Alphabet and the Oldest Hebrew Inscription”. This presentation involves the audience in deciphering an ancient inscription. Saturday night, November 17th “Leaving No Stone Unturned: The Excavations at the Temple”. Hear what Jewish archeologists have to say about Muslim claims that Jews have no connection to Israel.
